Guernsey Rowing Club Rules - As amended at the AGM held on 17 December 2016

The Guernsey Rowing Club believes that if all individuals in rowing aspire to uphold these values, it will foster an inclusive, fair, and welcoming environment for all to enjoy. This Code of Conduct applies to anyone who is involved in the sport of rowing through the Guernsey Rowing Club.

The Committee and Officers of the Guernsey Rowing Club are committed to providing a welcoming, inclusive, and safe environment for all of our members, both adults and children. Bullying of any kind is not tolerated at our club. We take a proactive approach to prevent bullying of anyone from occurring and will respond to all concerns and disclosures of bullying, prioritising the well-being of all children and adults at risk.

The Guernsey Rowing Club prioritises the safeguarding and protection of all children who participate in, or come into contact with, rowing. We are committed to upholding safeguarding best practice and minimising the risk of children being harmed; our safeguarding policies, procedures, training and support promote safe, inclusive, fun and child-centred environments in which all children have a positive and enjoyable experience of rowing.

Rowing is an environmentally friendly activity. The Guernsey Rowing Club will undertake to ensure that all who take part are aware of the steps we recommend towards environmental sustainability and are committed to inspiring a culture of respect for the environment within rowing.

The Guernsey Rowing Club is committed to making rowing an inclusive and diverse sport that welcomes and has an offer for everyone. This commitment is at the heart of our Strategy ‘Rowing – Everyone’s Sport’. ‘Open to All’ and inclusivity are part of our core values. The Guernsey Rowing Club work with members and partners to enable rowing to be an accessible and inclusive sport that provides opportunities for enjoyment and achievement at all levels. The aim, for The Guernsey Rowing Club, is for rowing to be truly representative of all sections of society.

The Guernsey Rowing Club relies on guard boats and promotes safe racing. The waters used for racing are for everyone, not just the club. No one has any more right of way, both private and commercial, over anyone else. The design of rowing skiffs makes them difficult to be seen at the best of times. Guard boats provide a more visible sight for others. They also cover the safe rescue of crews and their skiffs.

The Guernsey Rowing Club has a strong commitment to the safety of children and adults at risk who take part in rowing. Taking pictures and videos is an important part of sporting life; they can be used as a coaching aid, for keeping a record and for promoting our sport. We are committed to doing our best to ensure that any imagery used within rowing shows our sport in the best light. It is not our intention to prevent parents from taking pictures of their children but rather to ensure photographic practices are carefully monitored, allowing us to act in cases where inappropriate imagery is circulated and to deter anyone with undesirable intentions.
